Earthing is one daily habit that’s so good for you. You can do this easily by walking barefoot on the dewy grass every morning. While you’re there you can deepen the experience by praying or meditating on appreciative thoughts or being fully present in the moment and aware of the sensations, sounds, scents of the natural elements around you. When you’re done, smile and take a deep a breath before walking back inside and getting on with your day.
The activity is best when done for at least 30 minutes, with beneficial results accumulating everyday.
How does earthing help?
Grounding or earthing is a therapeutic technique that involves doing activities that “ground” or electrically reconnect you to the earth. Electrical charges from the earth have positive effects on your body.
Lifestyle practices such as wearing insulating footwear, working and living in high-rise buildings, and sleeping on elevated beds separate most us from direct skin connection with the Earth’s surface. This seems to have a detrimental effect on our body’s ability to heal and regulate.
Researchers have demonstrated that electrically conductive contact of the human body with the surface of the Earth (grounding or earthing) produces positive changes in physiology and health. Such effects relate to reduced inflammation, better immune responses, faster wound healing, and prevention and treatment of chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.
In addition, grounding or earthing appears to improve sleep, normalise the day–night cortisol rhythm, reduce pain, reduce stress, and increase heart rate variability, and reduce blood viscosity.
